Surface preparation

New steel: degrease and wash off salts with fresh water. Remove weld spatter, grind welds and sharp edges. Blast to Sa 2.5 (ISO 8501-1), profile Rz 30–75 µm. Prime within 4 hours.

Shop-primed surfaces: blast welds, heat-straightened areas and damage to Sa 2.5, or power-tool clean to St 3. Soluble zinc salts (white rust) must be washed off with fresh water and a stiff brush before overcoating.

Maintenance: remove grease, salts, dust and loose or damaged old coating.

Coating systems

Preceding coatDirectly onto steel blast cleaned to Sa 2.5 / St 3, or onto approved shop primer, zinc-rich primer or epoxy primer.
Consequent coatEpoxy, polyurethane and fluorocarbon topcoats.
